THIS TOWN AIN'T BIG ENOUGH FOR THE BOTH OF US

"Cette ville n'est pas assez grande pour nous deux ! Et ce n'est pas moi qui partirai..."  L'admonestion classique du western sert de leitmotiv à cette composition des incroyables frères Mael - Ron étant l'auteur moustachu chaplinesque et Russell le chanteur androgyne à la voix haut perchée. Des envolées délirantes sur un texte qui ne l'est pas moins et s'avère pratiquement intraduisible, en firent le tube incontournable de 1974.

Je me souviens... (un petit coup de Perec) du concert des étincelants Sparks à l'Olympia, qui s'acheva sur la folie de THIS TOWN AIN'T BIG ENOUGH FOR THE BOTH OF US, laquelle, en rappel, fut immédiatement répétée par le groupe porté par une foule en délire. Ces choses-là arrivent.

Que dire du texte qui aligne, au rythme d'un coeur qui bat de plus en plus fort ("heartbeat, increasing heartbeat"), une visite assez dangereuse au zoo, un rendez-vous au café avec "elle" mais contrarié par l'arrivée de cannibales, voire une douche assez prémonitoire puisqu'elle annonce l'inévitable et logique  alliance, quatorze ans plus tard (1988) des Sparks et des Rita Mitsouko, avec l'également inoubliable duo de Catherine Ringer et Russell Mael pour SINGING IN THE SHOWER....
